Keeping up with maintenance is key to keeping your Scion running smoothly for years to come. We at King's Auto Repair can help you keep your Scion running for many years.
Regular service visits are especially important for newer Scion models. Following the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule helps prevent issues before they happen and keeps your warranty intact.
Oil Changes
Oil changes are the foundation of routine engine maintenance. Scion recommends getting your oil changed every 5,000 miles or 6months, for vehicles driven in dusty conditions or a lot of stop and go traffic. One place we at King's Auto Repair differ from Scion on oil changes is they claim 10,000 mile oil changes for normal maintenance. We see a lot of vehicles that develop engine issues once they are out of warranty from these extended 10,000 mile oil changes. Mostly timing chain and Variable Camshaft issues. We only use high quality synthetic oil from Quaker State or Pennzoil to keep your engine clean and running efficiently. Checking other fluids like coolant, brake fluid, and transmission fluid should also be part of your regular service visits.
Tire Rotation
Rotating your tires every 5,000 miles ensures even tread wear. All tire manufactures recommend rotating your tires between 5,000 to6,000 miles to keep the tread wear warranty valid on the tires. If you don't rotate them only expect to get 1/2 the mileage that the manufacture claims the tire should get. This small step extends the life of your tires significantly. Each tire wears differently depending on its position on the vehicle. Rotating them evens out the wear and gets the most mileage out of your investment.
Engine Air Filter Replacement
A clean air filter allows your engine to breathe freely. Scion recommends replacing your engine air filter every 30,000 miles. A clogged filter can reduce performance and gas mileage. Over time as the filter clogs it can suck dirt through the filter and cause damage to the engine
Cabin Air Filter
The cabin air filter keeps the air inside your Scion fresh and free of pollutants. Scion recommends replacing it every 10,000 miles or once a year. A clean cabin filter improves the air quality inside your vehicle. It can also help rid your car of odd odors. Most cabin air filters now have charcoal in them to remove offensive smells.
Brake Fluid Exchange
Scion recommends a complete brake fluid exchange every 3years. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time which lowers its boiling point.Fresh brake fluid ensures top brake system performance and safety. This will ensure that if your vehicle is equipped with automatic emergency breaking the car will perform and stop as the factory intended it to.
Fuel System Cleaner
It is recommended by Scion to use a quality fuel system cleaner every 5,000 miles helps remove deposits that can build up in fuel injectors and other components. This improves performance and fuel economy. With the new engine designs small deposits can lead to large engine running issues. Using the factory recommended EFI Tank Additive or BG 44k will keep your car running its best.
Scheduled Inspections
Scion recommended maintenance schedule also includes general inspections around every 5,000 miles. Your trusted mechanic will check things like brakes, suspension, belts, hoses, and fluids. They'll make sure all systems are in good shape.
